A group of students of the School of Social Work of the University of Montana (“To change everything, start anywhere”) in Missoula visited Social Science Works on May 18. Among other things, we discussed populism in Europe and the United States, its manifestations and causes, as well as what we can do about. Deliberations with citizens or citizens dialogues were considered key in strengthening the political competences of people and their trust in democracy. Not social media or internet communications but old-fashioned social work or community building plays a pivotal role in this. So the study of social work has a bright future.
